Summary of Article and Explanation of Constitutional Connection
In this article, O'Leary argues that we no longer need the right to bear arms in the Bill of Rights because times have changed. This article relates to the second amendment in the Bill of Rights because it goes into detail on why "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." (Bill of Rights, Amendment II) should be omitted.
Political Cartoon
Cartoon Explanation
In this political cartoon there is the Executive Vice President and CEO of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, holding firearms saying "stand your ground against skittles and popcorn". The skittles and popcorn are a reference to two innocent citizens killed with a firearm, and their killers got off on the "stand your ground" law. This Cartoon relates to the 2nd amendment because many people use the two instances referenced above as reasons we need gun law or even need to omit the 2nd amendment, but LaPierre is encouraging guns for the same exact reasons.
